How to Extend Your Desktop Using Chrome
The easiest way to do this on a Mac or a PC would have to be using Google Chrome’s built in Chromecast service. Since they are both owned by Google, they have made it easy to just use the two of them together. To be able to use the Chromecast service you have to have the newest and most up to date version of Google Chrome.
When Chromecast first came out you needed to download an additional addon to be able to do this, but now it comes directly built into the newest version of Chrome which makes it much easier. Once you are sure that you have the newest and most up to date version of Chrome you need to follow the following directions.
1. First, you need to open Chrome and click on the menu button in the top right corner of the browser window, then click on Cast in the menu.
2. Wait just a moment for the Cast To box to appear and choose the drop down menu.
3. There will be two choices. One is Cast tab and one is Cast desktop. You need to choose Cast desktop.
4. That will take you back to the main Chromecast menu.
5. Now, you need to select your Chromecast device.
6. A pop up window will appear with a Yes and No option and you need to click Yes.
7. If you are using a Mac, your desktop should be extended now on whatever screen your Chromecast is plugged into.
You should note that the sound will not be extended to the new screen and you will still only be able to hear it from the speakers on your Mac. There may also be a delay in the second display, so be aware of that as well. This is functional but not made directly for this purpose and does come with the small setbacks mentioned here.
That doesn’t mean that this is not a great tool to use. It is truly hard to mention them because they are such sleight setbacks in the first place.
